Beginning Weaving Workshop with Maggie Pate
June 1 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
In this intensive introductory workshop, you’ll learn the basics of weaving, including forming shapes, roving texture, and creating negative space. Even if you are an experienced weaver, Maggie will provide tips and tricks you can use to add to your own weaving practice. Each student will gain the knowledge they need to create their own unique wall art, and will be provided a loom and supplies to design and handcraft their own woven textile art!
Maggie Pate’s work in textiles explores the intersectional synthesis of textures, nature, and geometry. Recently, she has been focusing on cultivating a studio that is 100% sustainable and eco-friendly by extracting color from predominantly food waste from local restaurants and farms. Her work with color capturing has culminated in her first book, The Natural Colors Cookbook (Page Street Publishing), which aims to make natural dyeing and sustainable color practices accessible to all. Her latest project Feed Weave, which provides custom fiber installations, advocates for slow craft and fighting food waste & hunger. Before this, Maggie was a fashion model before moving on to work for a label in New York City.
