July 8+15 | Teapots! with Still Life Ceramics
July 8 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Learn to make teapots with Sasha Wachtel
Teapots are some of the most fun and challenging things potters make. More than any other type of vessel, they demand a negotiation between form and function that leads to exploration, creativity, and deeper familiarity with the possibilities of clay. This workshop will take place over two Mondays and guide you through the whole process of creating a teapot. In the first week we will learn to throw the component parts of a teapot. In the second we’ll trim and assemble these and create our finished pieces. We’ll talk about what makes a teapot functional, beautiful, and personal, and you’ll be encouraged to explore the almost infinite variety of forms that teapots can take.
Prerequisite: basic knowledge of wheel throwing.
